| Abstract: | Mahzor in silver bookbinding, Venice: Vendramin Press, 1742. Collection of The Jewish Theological Seminary of America. "The ornate silver binding enclosing this mahzor is characteristic of eighteenth-century luxury book covers, which often incorporated coats of arms as decorative elements. Wealthy Italian Jews customarily presented silver-bound books as wedding gifts. The front cover of this exquisite binding contains the Norsa family emblem of three heads in profile with a band decorated by two stars and a crescent moon dividing the field. The Formiggini family emblem of a rampant lion beside a tree and a castle is found on the back cover."
