Angela Zito

Angela Zito is Associate Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Program in Religious Studies at New York University. She co-directs the Center for Religion and Media with Faye Ginsburg and associate director Barbara Abrash. Her research interests include history and culture; critical theories of religion; religions of China, religion and media, history and anthropology of embodiment; performance and subjectivity. Her books include Of Body and Brush: Grand Sacrifice as Text/Performance in 18th-Century China and Body, Subject and Power in China, co-edited with Tani Barlow. She is the recipient of many fellowships and honors, including postdoctoral fellowships from the Chiang-ching Kuo Foundation and National Academy of Sciences, National Committee for Communication with the People's Republic of China and the Gladys Brookes Teaching Award, Barnard College.
