Performance of The Jewish Home Beautiful (circa 1940), St. John, New Brunswick. The script for this pageant, accompanied by recipes, appears in a 1941 book of the same name. The pageant, which was developed during the 1930s, was featured at the Temple of Religion, New York World's Fair, 1940, and continues to be performed to this day.
Food offers rich opportunities for exploring the relationship of Jews, media, and religion. We will begin our exploration with a focus on cookbooks.
